Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend servicing your boiler once a year to keep it running safely and efficiently. Regular servicing helps spot small issues before they become costly repairs; and it’s often required to keep your manufacturer’s warranty valid.
Book your annual check with Stourbridge Heating Company and stay warm, safe, and covered.
Most boilers are expected to last between 10 and 15 years, provided they’re well maintained and serviced regularly. You shouldn’t need to replace your boiler more often than this.
If your boiler is only a few years old and develops a fault, it’s worth checking whether it’s still covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. If this is the first issue and it’s no longer under warranty, we recommend having it inspected and repaired by a qualified heating engineer.
Before requesting a quote for a new boiler, it’s worth considering whether a full replacement is actually necessary. Ask yourself:
Has the boiler completely stopped working?
Is there a fault that could be repaired instead?
Sometimes, issues like a leak or changes in boiler pressure can be resolved without replacing the entire system — and in some cases, you might even be able to fix it yourself with a simple reset or pressure top-up.
It’s also worth considering that upgrading to a modern, energy-efficient boiler can significantly reduce the amount of gas your home uses, helping you cut heating bills while keeping your home warm and comfortable.
There are three main types of boiler commonly used in UK homes:
- Combi (Combination) Boiler Provides heating and hot water instantly, without the need for a separate hot water tank …ideal for smaller homes.
- Regular (Conventional) Boiler Provides heating and heats water that’s stored in a separate hot water cylinder. Often used in homes with older heating systems or higher hot water demand.
- System Boiler Similar to a regular boiler but more compact. It’s a sealed, pressurised system that doesn’t require a feed and expansion tank in the loft …perfect for modern setups.
Boilers can also vary by fuel type: including gas, oil, or LPG; and by whether they’re condensing models, which are designed to be more energy-efficient by recovering heat from exhaust gases.
All new boiler installations include a full manufacturer’s warranty covering both parts and labour. Selected models come with warranties of up to 10 years, with options to extend for added peace of mind.
- Upgrade your controls
Install smart thermostats or zoned heating controls to fine-tune temperatures room by room.
Add thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) for better control and energy savings. - Powerflush your system
A professional powerflush clears out sludge and debris from radiators and pipework, improving heat flow and efficiency. - Bleed radiators
If radiators have cold spots or take ages to warm up, bleeding them can restore proper circulation. - Improve insulation
Better loft, wall, and pipe insulation helps your system work less hard, keeping heat in and bills down. - Upgrade radiators
Modern radiators heat up faster and distribute warmth more evenly. Designer options also save space and add style. - Add underfloor heating
Ideal during renovations. Especially in kitchens, bathrooms, or open-plan spaces. Works well with modern boilers. - Service your boiler
Annual servicing keeps your boiler running safely and efficiently, and can extend its lifespan.
Underfloor heating isn’t just for new builds; it can work beautifully in older homes too. Whether you’re renovating a Victorian terrace or updating a character cottage, modern systems can be tailored to suit your property.
With the right insulation and installation method, you’ll enjoy warm floors, more usable wall space, and improved energy efficiency.
We’ll assess your flooring type, ceiling height, and heating needs to recommend the best solution, …whether it’s a slimline electric system for a bathroom or a full wet system for a ground floor upgrade.
Yes, underfloor heating works with carpet; as long as the carpet and underlay are designed to let heat through. For best results, choose materials with a combined tog rating of 1.5 or less. Thinner carpets and specialist underlays help your system warm the room efficiently while keeping that soft, comfortable feel underfoot.
It depends on the system size and complexity. Most installations take a few days, with minimal disruption to your business. We offer flexible scheduling to minimise downtime, including early mornings, evenings, or weekend work.
